I'm on Netflix Today.
Tour update and alot of feelings! Pisces Moon ACTIVATE!
Hiiii…
I hope your summer is actually treating you well and not just on Instagram living through others folks summer. I was guilty of this until i got to meet the folks i admired and saw it was a huge scam. A scam to themselves. Poor thing.
I wanted to sit down and talk to you the way I used to talk to people before everything became a reel and a caption and a countdown timer. So grab something to drink. Here is everything going on in the Nore Davis Universe…its a run ride!
Generational Curse is on YouTube and has hit 6,300 views. I know in the world of viral numbers that might sound modest but let me tell you something…I have never performed for 6,300 people at once in my life. Not even close. The idea that 6,300 people sat down and chose to watch me do stand up comedy on a platform I’m learning much more about is genuinely one of the most humbling things that has happened to me in 18 years of doing this. Thank you. Truly.
That special is also an album now. Eleven tracks. Nine albums since 2014. I love looking back at the catalog and hearing how much I have grown and changed as a comic. My biggest critic is always myself. That never changes. But the catalog does not lie. You can stream Generational Curse on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube right now.
While all of that was happening I also found out I am in three episodes of the final season of Survival of the Thickest on Netflix starring the incredible Michelle Buteau. Michelle is my big sis in this game and I am honored every single time she lets me be part of something she built from the ground up. Season 3 is streaming right now. If you have Netflix go watch it tonight.
I am not the type of comedian who stands in one spot. I am an act out comic. I live for the physical stuff, the characters, the full body commitment to a bit. I also have sickle cell anemia which means after a full hour of me and my inner child having fun on stage my battery drains completely dry. So I do pop up shows. One night. One city. Everything I have. That is the Generational Curse Pop Up Tour and here is where I will be this year.
July 17 | New York, NY | Comedy in Harlem
August 14 | Brooklyn, NY | Rum Bar
September 10 | San Diego, CA | Mic Drop Gold Room
September 11 | Los Angeles, CA | Lyric Hyperion
November 15 | Detroit, MI | Mic Drop Main Room
San Diego and Detroit are two markets I have never headlined before. That excites me more than I can explain. New rooms. New audiences. New energy. I will have merch at every show so you can take a piece of this with you.
If I am coming to your city please come out. I mean that.
Now let me tell you what is really going on underneath all of this because I think it matters.
As I perform about mental health and healing and all the silliness that comes with being human I am also actively battling serious mental health conditions of my own. It is tough. But it is also one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. Every day I understand myself a little more.
My childhood on the outside looked like a pretty standard single mother with two kids in Yonkers in the 90s. Ups and downs but nothing dramatic. But inside the home it was a whole different story. I was fighting to be seen, heard, and loved for exactly who I was. My mother called me a rebel. Also a pain in her ass. She was not wrong on either count. I hated being controlled. Still do. It was like Batman vs the Joker most of life and roles would reverse. We are all a villain to somebody story. But I understand her so much more now than I ever did then. She was living in survival mode. And when you are surviving there is no room for feelings! Remember when Harriet Tubman shot slaves that refused to go with her cause they were emotionally attache to they Master? Connected to the Plantation? Yeah, she ain’t got no time for f*cking feelings…POP! WHO’S RIDING TO FREEDOM WITH ME?! lol.
Anyway, during those times, Lil Nore always showed up. He made jokes to protect me. Lately though I write the joke and then I dig under the hood to find out what is actually underneath it. That balance between silly material and deeply personal material is the comedian I love being and intend to keep becoming. You will start to see the beginning of that more personal material at these shows.
One last thing before I let you go.
My daughter finished 8th grade with grades in the 90s and 100s across the board. Her report card looked like the hottest summer forecast. She literally brought the heat. Her mother and I are proud healthy co-parents and watching her grow into who she is becoming is the greatest thing I have ever been part of. Full stop. Everything else is just the work. She is the reason.
Okay. That is everything. Stream the special. Stream the album. Watch Survival of the Thickest. Come see me live if I am in your city this summer or fall.
